Low Town Station Scaffolded For New Ceiling.
Today, scaffolding is being erected within the ticket hall of our Bottom Station. The station will be open as normal and passengers will be able to walk and queue underneath.
The scaffolding is necessary to enable work to fit a new ceiling. The old lime plaster and lathe ceiling is now tired. Contractors are fitting a new ceiling which will also be of lime putty plaster. Lime putty plaster remains true to the original design, it is healthier for the building and is a green material. In curing, it actually absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere. The new ceiling will also add insulation thereby reducing our CO2 footprint.
The Cliff Railway remains committed to sustainability and is a green form of transport, which, unlike most of the alternatives, does not pump diesel particulates into the air of Bridgnorth.
